ACCEL-KS Founder Video: Tacit Technology

The Kansas Department of Commerce and Groover Labs partnered to bring the Accelerating Concept to Commercialization in Kansas, or ACCEL-KS, to life, reaching out across the state to find and fund 25 projects, provide them with startup ecosystem support, and help bring their products to early-stage commercialization.

Near the end of the grant period, we surveyed the recipients. Based on their responses, we selected six projects that had made the most progress, and we worked with Malibu Creative to produce videos that highlight their work through ACCEL-KS.

Over the next six weeks, we’re going to share each video, along with some brief info about the project.

Wind turbines are expensive, complex machines that require all of their parts to work harmoniously. One discordant note is the only warning before failure sets in.

Tacit Technologies, founded by Rye Kennedy, makes Jitterbug, a device capable of detecting that note. This early-warning system can help decrease maintenance costs by up to 30 percent by alerting wind-turbine owners before the failure occurs. And since motors and pumps fail in the same way, Tacit Technologies anticipates use cases beyond the wind turbine industry.

The ACCEL-KS at Groover Labs funded the prototype that proved the idea. The team at Groover Labs made sure it worked.
